Housing is a Human Right Coalition is part of Economic Justice Day at the 2013 Occupy National Gathering in Kalamazoo on Saturday, August 24. Our session, "Putting Families into Abandoned Homes," begins at 11am:

As more families are kicked off their public assistance due to time limits, and military veterans return home with little support for their well-being, grassroots people are working to find their own solutions. A Coalition of residents, attorneys, students, skilled trades persons, retirees and Occupy Detroit activists have assembled to assist low-income families move into abandoned bank-owned and city-owned Detroit houses. There are many lessons and opportunities and we are eager to coordinate this workshop to learn new models and strategies for addressing homelessness within neighborhoods struggling with foreclosure and blight.

Economic Justice Day takes place at the Wesley Foundation on 2101 Wilber Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI 49006.
